2011 Freeway Bike Hike - Sunday March 20

The Freeway Bike is on again - on March 20. A few of us from the Ride_Group combined with other Life Cycle for CanTeen participants to do this great ride last year from Kwinana to Joondalup. Most of us registered in Group C last year. It really was a great fun ride and very well organised. We took the train to the start and back home.

I've already registered for this year ..this time Group B (30 to 35kph). Hope to see you there

Saturday March 12 - Life Cycle for CanTeen [OnRoad] 2011

With Saturday March 12 being the start of the year's Life Cycle for CanTeen [OnRoad] a number (but not all) of the Ride_Group members will be absent.

For those of you who won't be participating in Life Cycle this year....if you want to schedule a ride let me know and I'll put an entry on the Ride_Group blog for you.

Cheers
Robert

Saturday March 5 - Freo ride combined with Cottesloe Sculpture by the Sea

Ride Organiser: Robert Hind
Organiser's email: Robert@robert-hind.com
Organiser's mobile telephone no: 0417 934 502
Ride style: Social
Terrain: Mainly Flat
Estimated Distance: 65 kms+
Start Point: Maylands, Narrows - North Side
Start Time: Maylands 7:30, Narrows 8:00

We're planning the old familiar "Friendly Freo". Since the 7th annual Cottesloe "Sculpture by the Sea" is on from March 3 to 22 we'll combine our ride with Sculpture viewing.

We've viewed the Sculptures for the past few years and there are always great shapes to look at on the beach ...and some of them are sculptures! Seriously these are usually great exhibitions by very talented and imaginative artists.

After the viewing we'll go on for the usual obligatory coffee stop (in Fremantle).

We'll have the usual Maylands Railway Station start at 7:30 am then hook up at the Narrows. The ride will start from the Narrows Bridge (North Side - where the bike path goes under the freeway bridge) at 8:00 am (don't forget to let me know if you're joining the ride)

Saturday February 26, 2011 - Heritage Trail mountain bike ride

Ride Organiser: Robert Hind Robert@robert-hind.com
Organisers mobile tel: 0417 934 502
Ride style: Social
Ride type: Mountain Bike - non technical
Terrain: Steady Climb then Good descent
Estimated Distance: 45kms
Start Time: 8:00 am
Start Point: 16 Mofflin Avenue, Darlington

We'll do the easy mountain bike ride on the Heritage Trail. Firstly we'll take the track from Francis Vivier's house to Pechey Park then we'll ride the track North of Great Eastern Highway up to Sawyers Valley. This a fairly easy, steady climb. We'll cross the highway and return on the side with a stop at Darlington for coffee / food. The return is mainly downhill and in parts quite fast.

For those of you who haven't done much mountain bike riding this is an excellent way to get accustomed to MTB rides. Francis tells me:-

"Our address is: 16 Mofflin Avenue, Darlington. I won't give my home number, so the rest of the household can sleep  - (in particular teenagers they need their beauty sleep)! But people can ring my mobile, I will be up by 6.00 am.
Mofflin avenue is off Ryecroft Road, it is a road that goes between Darlington and Glen Forrest, when coming from Darlington, it is on the left. My house is on the right when coming down Mofflin Avenue and look for a green letter box.
If people come via Great Eastern Hwy, I tell my visitors to follow the white lines all the way to Mofflin Avenue, generally it works. You can come via the back roads from Guildford, via Bushmead Rd, Helena Valley Rd and Scott St, it is a very pleasant road.
Finally I will ask every one to park their cars on the street, otherwise it becomes a nightmare with the 3 cars and one motorbike on my property. Come to the top of driveway for a meet and greet."
Cheers,
Francis Vivier

2011 SmokeFree Perth Criteriums - Exciting finale in Freo

Another exciting night in Freo in very warm conditions.

Tonight's viewrng wasn't quite as good as Leederville. The course was a big and there wasn't a point where you could see racing in both directions (in Leederville the course went down both sides of the road (up and back). Still racing was good but clearly tough on the riders with a fair number dropping out.

There seemed fewer opportunities for a breakaway and the course seemed to suit the sprinters. Dave, who isn't a sprinter, still managed 4th place. Well done.

2011 SmokeFree Perth Criteriums - David Hind wins Leederville Men's Support race

Race 3 in Leederville saw a pleasant change to conditions. Races 1 (Northbridge) and 2 (Vic Park) started from 2pm and it was very hot. The Leederville races didn't start until 7pm and the conditions were great.

Dave saw an opportunity to bridge the gap to a breakaway of 3 riders, then pulled away and gradually built a strong lead. As the race neared it's end it was clear that short of a fall or puncture he wasn't going to be caught and he wasn't. A convincing win and a long way ahead of 2nd place.

Saturday Feb 12, 2011 - Hills ride

Ride Organiser: Robert Hind Robert@robert-hind.com
Organisers mobile tel: 0417 934 502
Ride style: Social
Ride type: Road
Terrain: Hilly

This week's ride, by popular request, is a hilly ride starting at 8:00 am. from the corner of Scott St and Great Eastern Hway, Koongamia.
We'll take the back streets to Mundaring via a series of fairly short hills, then cycle past the weir to Kalamunda. The hill on the Kalamunda side of the weir and the last few km into Kalamunda are the big challenges of the ride.
Morning tea will be at Le Croissant.
We'll head back to the start via Gooseberry Hill and the zig-zags.

Here is the plot from when we last did this ride:

Hope to see you there,
Robert
